Quick Reference - Parts of Speech

Noun - names, places and things EX: Susan reads novels.

Pronoun - takes the place of a noun EX: You and they saw it.

Adjective - describes a noun or pronoun EX: I got a new bike. We were hungry.

Verb - shows action or state-of-being EX: We swam and surfed. Sue was a candidate.

Adverb - tells how, when, where, or how much the action happens (or happened) EX: He works quickly.

Preposition - connects a noun or pronoun to another word EX: Some of the kittens had bows on their necks.

Conjunction - joins words or groups of words EX: We plan to hike and camp.

Interjection - expresses emotion EX: Hey, watch out!
